Sónia Aniceto
Where Thread Meets Landscape
Step into the textile universe of Sónia Aniceto, a Portuguese contemporary artist whose horizons are woven and unwoven, revealing landscapes that transcend reality to embrace the imaginary and the sensory.
"The horizon is the last refuge of the dream." – Marcel Proust
In her works, the horizon line becomes both tangible and elusive—a bodily extension and a symbol of desire and perpetual movement. Thread, at the heart of her artistic identity, embodies continuity and connection, merging textile techniques with drawing to create immersive, one-of-a-kind works.
Her textile landscapes act as mirrors of fragmented realities, flirting with abstraction. The interplay between thread and paper breaks the horizon, creating a visual imbalance where sky and earth intertwine. Each stitch introduces an organic, tactile, almost living dimension.
These three-dimensional works, rich in texture, invite viewers to explore fractured and diffused horizons. By deconstructing and reassembling the horizon line, Sónia multiplies perspectives, opening imaginary spaces infused with memory, climate, botany, history, and culture.
